429Stripe-Rate-Limited-ReasonA Stripe request returns 429 and you back off as for a rate limit.
Backing off does not help the concurrent writes that fail.
Stripe says a 429 that comes without the rate-limit headers was not the result of a rate limit; it might be a lock timeout.
Look at the Stripe-Rate-Limited-Reason header. If it is absent, reduce concurrent updates to the same object rather than only slowing down.
curl -s -D - -o /dev/null https://api.stripe.com/v1/customers -H "Authorization: Bearer $STRIPE_KEY" | grep -i "Stripe-Rate-Limited-Reason"
No such header on a 429 means it is probably a lock timeout, so reduce concurrent updates to the same object.
