An agent has several MCP servers connected, for example GitHub, Slack, Sentry, Grafana and Splunk.
The context is already large at the first prompt, and answers get worse or slower.
Every tool definition is sent to the model. Anthropic reports about 55k tokens for such a setup.
Use tool search / deferred loading, connect only the servers a task needs, and remove unused tools.
# connect only the MCP servers the current task needs; defer the rest
Compare the token count of the first request before and after removing unused servers.
