A custom connector points at a server on a private network or localhost.
The connector cannot reach the server although it works from your machine.
Remote connectors are configured and brokered through your Claude account, so the connection originates from Anthropic infrastructure.
Make the MCP endpoint publicly reachable, or allow Anthropic's published IP ranges in your firewall.
